WELCOME TO THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE URBANNA OYSTER FESTIVAL!

For our many returning guests, Welcome back! If this is your first year, you’re in for a treat! The Town of Urbanna is a true Oyster town and the best place to taste, buy and try all things oyster related. Start your day at the Scottish Factor Store and check out the history of the oyster industry in Urbanna. After your get a peek at how we’ve done it for decades, take a right out of the driveway to the museum and head down “Community Row” to the Waterfront exhibits where you can see the industry in practice today. Once you get a little hands-on experience head back up to the vendors and try all of the different ways to eat these bivalve delicacies! Don’t forget to try the wine and oyster pairings! Also, Virginia Craft Beer Tasting in the park. Virginia is for Oyster Lovers after all!

In 1958, a group came before Town Council and requested $150 to help with activities of Urbanna Days. The request was approved. Two years later (1961) the name was changed to the Urbanna Oyster Festival. The Urbanna Oyster Festival was designated as the “official” Oyster Festival of the Commonwealth in 1988. The festival is sponsored by the Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting educational and civic events throughout the year. The Foundation would like to thank the many volunteers who contributed their time and enthusiasm to this year’s event. We greatly appreciate the cooperation of the town council, town staff and especially the citizens of Urbanna who open this gem of a town for this annual event.

Enjoy the 60th Urbanna Oyster Festival and be sure to come back for our other fantastic events!

    Message from Lori Dolan:
    • We're doing it again this year and hope you're making plans for our December 9th overnight event to Virginia Beach. If you've been before, I know you had a good time! If you've never come, why not? This event offers you a scenic caravan, great dinner at Rudees, a chance to drive on the boardwalk to view the holiday lights, a party with friends (cards, games & music), a polar bear dip in the December ocean, an ocean view hotel room at the Country Inn & Suites and complimentary breakfast before heading home Sunday morning. Then, you have the rest of the month for your Christmas shopping!

Details: Like past year, we will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Dairy Queen at Route 5 & 295 (3275 New Market Road) and depart at noon. JR & Linda Walker will lead our caravan by way of scenic back roads. The Smithfield Christmas Parade should be finishing up by the time we hit Smithfield. We may run into a short delay there due to parade traffic. Susan & Bill Hardy have generously invited us to their Suffolk home for a

Please make your own hotel reservations 1-757-437-9100 (Country Inn & Suites at 1801 Atlantic Avenue). The hotel has good, covered parking and if you’ve put your Vette away for the winter, come in your OTC (other than Corvette). We have an indoor pool, so bring your suits!

Please pack your Santa hats, nametags, club radios, a cooler with your beverage of choice for after dinner fun in the hotel's party room and bring along some munchies to share. Please give me your song suggestions for the after party and Dave will buy them from ITunes so you'll get to hear what you'd like during our party.

Hope you'll be with us again this year at the beach!

Susan & Bill Hardy have generously invited us to their Suffolk home for a pit stop again this year before we continue to Virginia Beach. Our dinner reservation at Rudees on the Inlet (227 Mediterranean Ave) is set for 5:30 pm. Please sign the events book or call me (804-346-5266) so I can give Rudees a good headcount.
